Pix will now have a card
Roberto said at an event held on the 30th that he believes that the best way to enable payment via PIX offline is by using a physical card with the proximity function.
“Basically, at some point there will be a Pix card. You will bring it close to your cell phone, and you will transfer money online to offline on the card. It will work like a bus card, a super secure technology. You will be able to use the card offline, and when you return to the online world, you will be able to transfer your balance back,” said Roberto, without going into deeper details.
The BC president also spoke about the bank's conversation with the Italian government for a possible implementation of an “International Pix”.
So, this modality would enable instant payments and transfers in other countries, with Italy being the pioneer.

The BC also explained that the PIX offline may allow a payer without an internet connection to carry out a transaction. The function is still under development.
“There is a wide range of technologies that can be adopted to initiate an offline Pix, the card is one of them. The BC is in the study phase of these technologies within the scope of the evolutionary agenda and will disclose the established specifications in due course”, explained the BC in a note.
