The referee is considered an authority within a football match, he works together with the judge so that the game takes place fairly, without bias towards either side.

He is responsible for enforcing the rules of the game, ensuring the safety of players, making decisions on controversial plays and maintaining order during the match.

In addition, he makes quick and impartial decisions to maintain the integrity of the competition. Furthermore, this professional is the one who will start the match and decide which team will start.

It also ends the game when regulation time or designated injury time runs out.

This professional has the power to apply penalties, such as yellow cards, which represent warnings, and red cards, which represent expulsion, to players who commit serious fouls or unsportsmanlike conduct.

It is also the referee's job to regulate free kicks or penalties for teams that are disadvantaged by fouls committed by their opponents.
