What is the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS)?

The Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) was created by the federal government with the aim of protecting workers dismissed without just cause.

The deposit is made every month and is equivalent to 8% of each employee's salary. Contributions are compulsory and the amount cannot be deducted from the employee's pay.

How much does the FGTS earn?

THE FGTS yields 3% per year plus the monthly application of the TR (Referential Rate).

In addition, part of the profits are distributed among workers with linked accounts.

What is FGTS money used for?

All workers' FGTS accounts are held at Caixa Econômica Federal.

These funds are used by the government to finance housing, basic sanitation and infrastructure programs.

In this way, the money in each worker's FGTS account does not remain idle at the Caixa.

However, regardless of where the government is using these funds, workers have the right to withdraw their FGTS in certain situations.

What is the extraordinary withdrawal from the FGTS?

The Federal Government, in partnership with Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF), will release the extraordinary withdrawal of the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS).

It was instituted by Provisional Measure No. 1.105/22.

The FGTS Extraordinary Withdrawal calendar starts on April 20th and is based on the worker's month of birth.

The withdrawal amount is up to R$ 1,000 per worker, considering the sum of all FGTS accounts, whether active or inactive. The credit will be paid into a Digital Social Savings Account.

It is important to remember that the FGTS amount is usually withheld and can only be used in certain situations, such as dismissal without just cause and the purchase of a property.
