Let's understand more about this subject:
Understand what youth assistance is and whether it still exists
The government has several aid and benefit programs for low-income families in Brazil, and to guarantee even more benefits, Auxílio Brasil Jovem, or simply Auxílio Jovem, was created.
This program was aimed at children and adolescents who were dependents registered in CadÚnico, the Single Registry.
It was a benefit offered in conjunction with Auxilio Brasil, a program established during the Bolsonaro government, but along with the end of the government, Auxílio Brasil also ended in March.
The same applies to Auxílio Jovem, which ended in July 2023, it ceased to exist and was replaced by the return of the Bolsa Família Program.
Previously, this benefit was paid monthly in the amount of R$$50 reais, and could reach up to R$$1 thousand reais per year.
So what we can conclude is that youth assistance no longer exists, but families that are registered with Bolsa Família can receive additional payments for the young children and adolescents that are part of their composition.
The government has been studying the possibility of bringing this program back one day, but for now it is non-existent.
How does the Bolsa Família work?
Bolsa Família is a program that seeks to combat poverty and inequality by offering financial support to low-income families who are in need.
This program came into effect again in 2023 with the end of Auxílio Brasil and the beginning of the Lula government.
Since then, Bolsa Família has been administered by the Ministry of Citizenship, offering a minimum payment of R$$600 reais to families.
The main objective of this program is to contribute to improving people's quality of life and to a more egalitarian society, seeking to offer a path to access to food, health and education.
By ensuring food and nutritional security, the program helps combat hunger and malnutrition by providing financial resources that allow the purchase of essential foods.
The improvement in the quality of life of beneficiary families is reflected not only in food, but also in access to education and health services, due to the conditions for participating in the program.
Additional benefit for young people and children
Furthermore, as a way of not harming families that depended on youth assistance, there is the early childhood benefit, created to add another R$ 150 reais to the benefit according to each child up to 6 years old in the family.
After they are over 6 years old, children and adolescents registered with Bolsa Família can receive R$ 50 reais from ages 7 to 18.
But it is very important that the CadÚnico registration is up to date, with the situation and all the changes that are occurring in the family structure.
Only in this way can the government ensure that it is allocating benefits to the right people and have control over who is receiving them, how much and why.
But in order to receive the benefit related to young children and adolescents, much more is required than just an updated CadÚnico registration.
It is also necessary for the child or adolescent to attend school from the age of 4 to 17, that is, complete high school.
The minimum attendance is 85% for children aged 6 to 15, and 75% for adolescents aged 16 to 17.
In addition, children and adolescents must have their vaccination records up to date and updated according to their age group.
For the benefit of early childhood, it is necessary for the child to have nutritional monitoring of weight and height until the age of six. This is done to know if the child is being well cared for.
And for pregnant women to be able to receive the benefit as well, prenatal care is mandatory.
This monitoring is carried out by the Family Health Program, also known as PSF.
Requirements to receive the Bolsa Família
For a family to receive the Bolsa Família, formerly known as Auxilio Brasil and Auxílio Jovem, it is necessary to meet a series of requirements.
Starting with the most basic of them, having a per capita income of up to R$218 per month, this is one of the main requirements to be eligible for Bolsa Família.
To find out the per capita income, you must divide the family's total income by the number of members, including children and dependents.
Furthermore, the family must be registered in the Single Registry for social programs, also called CadÚnico.
You must comply with all the conditions that are mandatory to continue receiving your benefit.
Among the conditions, we can mention those related to aid for young people and the early childhood benefit, which require school attendance for children and adolescents, up-to-date vaccinations for children and monitoring of family health.
How to register in the Single Registry?
Registration in the Single Registry to receive the benefit of Bolsa Família, must be done by the Cras or MDS, Social Assistance Reference Centers and the Ministry of Social Development, respectively.
To complete the registration, the family member must go to one of these centers or units with their documents in hand, which are:
- Identification document for everyone in the family, which must be an ID, CPF, marriage certificate if applicable and birth certificate;
- Also take proof of residence, which can be a telephone, water or electricity bill;
- And an important part is to bring proof of income so that agents can verify the main requirement. To do this, bring a bank statement, income tax return or pay stub.
The head of the family must go there with these documents, and a social worker will conduct an interview to collect more information. This is how you will know if you are eligible to participate in the program.
