The FGTS calamity withdrawal is a modality that gives the worker the right to withdraw the FGTS balance due to a personal, urgent and serious need, caused by the natural disaster that hit their area of residence.

Due to the heavy rains recorded in Rio de Janeiro, in cities such as Paraty, Angra dos Reis, Mangaratiba, Nova Iguaçu, Mesquita and Belford Roxo, affected residents can request the withdrawal of Severance Pay Guarantee Fund (FGTS) by calamity.

How do I request a FGTS calamity withdrawal?

Anyone whose residence has been affected can withdraw their FGTS completely digitally.

In other words, there is no need to go to a physical agency.

The process is done through the FGTS application itself, which is available for free download on digital platforms (Android or iOS).

After downloading and entering some information, go to the “My withdrawals” option and select “Other withdrawal solutions”.

Click on “Public calamity” and enter the municipality in which you reside.

You will need to submit the following documents:

• Photo of an identity document (you can also use your driver's license)

• Proof of residence in the worker's name issued up to 120 days before the declaration of emergency

It is important to remember that if your proof of income is in the name of your spouse or partner, you will need to send a Marriage Certificate or Public Deed of Stable Union.

After sending the documents, within the application, to credit the amount to a Caixa account or any other bank and send the request.

The deadline for the analysis to be returned and credit to the account, if approved, is 5 business days.

In addition, you must have a positive balance in your FGTS account and not have made a withdrawal for the same reason in a period of less than one year.

The maximum withdrawal amount is R$ 6,220.00.

What can be classified as a natural disaster?

To make the FGTS calamity withdrawal, Caixa considers the following conditions as natural disasters. See list:

· Floods or gradual inundations;

· Sudden floods or flash floods;

· Flooding;

· Coastal flooding caused by the sudden invasion of the sea;

· Hail precipitation;

· Gales or storms;

· Very intense gales or extratropical cyclones;

· Extremely intense windstorms, hurricanes, typhoons or tropical cyclones;

· Tornadoes and waterspouts;

· Disaster resulting from the rupture or collapse of dams that causes mass movement, with damage to residential units.

Do you need to go to a Caixa branch?

As we said, the procedure is carried out completely digitally.

However, if it is necessary to go to a Caixa branch, the worker must present the following documents:

• Proof of residence

• Identification document of the non-employed worker or director

• CPF

• Physical CTPS or Digital CTPS or any other document that proves the employment relationship

In the absence of proof of residence, the FGTS account holder may present a declaration issued by the Municipal Government or the Federal District, proving that the worker lives in the affected area.

The declaration must be made on headed paper and the issuing authority must date and sign it.

The declaration must also include the worker's full name, date of birth, address and CPF number.


Other actions

Caixa Econômica Federal will also allow a pause of up to 90 days on housing finance contracts in the affected regions, upon request at the bank's branches.

The bank also reported that it will make a technical team available to provide assistance actions to support the cities.

This also includes the operationalization of resource transfers.

“City halls will have technical support from Caixa to assess the damage and estimate costs for the recovery of ongoing works or affected buildings, such as bridges, access roads, water supplies, health centers and schools, among others with a major impact on the population,” said the bank.

In addition, Caixa will also pause financing for hospitals in the affected regions, upon request.
